Group Texting by Chris Smith
I'm trying out a group text ('Gathering') thingy that
the Malvern club can use to let people know where it's flyable,
etc. The idea is that once you are signed-up you can send a
single text to a dedicated number and everyone in the
group gets a copy as a text message,
a bit like the mailing list but using texts rather than
email. I thought it might be a good idea for people to use 'on
the day' to say where they are going or what it's like where
they are now ('it's flyable at the moment on the Malverns, etc.). It is far more immediate than the mailing list which
can only really be used up to
the day before as most people cannot access their
emails on the hill!
It's only a trial system at the moment (I know some of
the guys involved in it) but it does mean that it's free (except
for the texts or voice calls you actually make of course) and should be available for the next few months. If it's useful
we can look at getting a
proper service set-up. Anyway, if you're interested email me your mobile number and I'll invite you. You'll
get a text message and you'll need to reply with a text of the
form: JOIN <username
<PIN The username can be anything but only letters and
numbers (no spaces, etc.). The PIN needs to be numeric and at least 4 digits.
